If you were to flee, I would follow you; if you were to fall under blows from me, I would stay by you till you woke; and if you were to choose not to wake, I’d stay by your side, in your sleep, in your unconscious, and beyond. But I don’t want to fight you.
In the solitude of cotton fields
Bernard-Marie Koltès

In this dance duet, loosely based on the play Dans la solitude des champs de coton (In the solitude of cotton fields) by Bernard-Marie Koltès, Christian and François Ben Aïm confront writing with dance, exploring the shifts from word to gesture, movement to language. The piece recounts a nocturnal encounter between two characters who, engaged in an ambiguous power struggle, compete verbally until they exhaust language, and silence descends before the inevitable battle commences. It reveals a moving masculine duality that is in constant flux, and that tests our humanity to the limit through our relationship with the other. A physical interpretation of the text that moves between adversity and fraternity.
